Overview¶

ETSI Software Development Group OpenOP (SDG OOP) delivers an open-source Operator Platform, enabling operator network and testbed federation, along with standardized capability exposure APIs.
OpenOP is a neutral, non-commercial, standardized environment where research organizations, SMEs and telecom players can jointly experiment, co-develop and test new capabilities. It builds on GSMA federation requirements and APIs, exposes CAMARA service APIs to application developers, and is released under the Apache 2.0 licence. What you can do with OpenOP¶
- Edge Application Management: deploy applications to edge cloud zones, close to their end users.
- Quality on Demand: request a stable, low-latency connection for a device.
- Location Retrieval: find where a device is.
- Traffic Influence: route a device's traffic to an application instance at the edge.
- Federation: work with partner operators, so applications can also run in their edge cloud zones.
- AI²: manage applications and network capabilities in natural language.
- Data Lab: publish and discover descriptions of datasets.
App Providers use these capabilities through CAMARA APIs. Operators federate through the GSMA Operator Platform East/Westbound Interface.
Example use cases¶
- A video analytics App Provider deploys its application in the edge cloud zone nearest its cameras, and receives the endpoint to stream video to.
- A cloud gaming application requests Quality on Demand for a player's device during a match, and releases it when the match ends.
- An App Provider registered with one operator deploys its application in a partner operator's edge cloud zone through federation.
